O BioloGeeku
BioloGeek je studentský semestrální časopis vydávaný od roku 2019. Za jeho založením stojí několik nadšených studentů biologie s vizí naučit sebe, ale i ostatní studenty Přírodovědecké fakulty Ostravské univerzity něco nového. Mezi hlavní cíle časopisu patří podat rozličná biologická témata co nejvíce srozumitelnou a poutavou formou a pomoci tak jak autorům článků, tak i čtenářům, aby získali povědomí i o věcech jim vzdálených. V BioloGeeku však najdete i kvízy prověřující vaše znalosti z různých oblastí biologie či kreativní návody, tipy a triky – např. návod na výrobu vlastního duběnkového inkoustu anebo rady, jak se vyvarovat chybám při tvorbě herbářové položky.
Za jednu z největších předností časopisu považujeme také to, že je psán dvojjazyčně, a to česky a anglicky, což umožňuje propojit studenty nejen napříč katedrami Přírodovědecké fakulty, ale i napříč fakultami celé univerzity. V BioloGeeku totiž hrají nezastupitelnou roli i studenti z Katedry českého jazyka a z Katedry anglistiky a amerikanistiky, kteří se podílejí na jazykových korekturách a případných úpravách textu. Toto mimo jiné umožňuje, aby si časopis přečetli i zahraniční studenti, kteří, v případě zájmu, mohou do našeho týmu také vstoupit a stát se tak součástí širšího kolektivu mladých biologů.
About BioloGeek
BioloGeek is a semestral journal published by students since 2019. It was founded by a couple of enthusiastic students of biology with the goal to learn something new, and to introduce this knowledge to other students of the Faculty of Science at the University of Ostrava. One of the main purposes of the journal is to present diverse biological topics in a comprehensive and engaging way and to help the authors as well as the students to gain awareness about fields of biology they are not that familiar with. In BioloGeek, you can also find quizzes testing your knowledge of different biology topics, creative DIY guides, tips and tricks - for example, a guide to make your own iron gall ink, or helpful advice to avoid mistakes while creating a herbarium specimen.
One of the biggest perks of the journal is the fact that it is published both in Czech and English, giving an opportunity to students from different departments of the Faculty of Science, and even from different faculties of the University of Ostrava, to connect. In BioloGeek, students from the Department of Czech Language and the Department of English and American Studies take part in proofreading and small text modifications. This also enables foreign students to read the journal, and, if they are interested, to join our team and become a member of a group of young biologists.
